It’s been five years since Miracle in a Dry Season first hit store shelves. Giddy days, those! And while I’ve been fortunate to see more stories published (and others yet to come), that first novel is the one that will always hold a dear place in my heart.
And somehow, even after five years, readers keep falling in love with Casewell and Perla. Of course, the fact that my publisher puts the digital version of the book on sale with some regularity doesn’t hurt a bit. And there’s just such a sale going on during the month of July!

Of course, what better way to celebrate five years of publication and a great sale than with a pan of Perla’s Peach Cobbler? It’s peach season in the south and this recipe is so simple and delicious–irresistible!
PERLA’S PEACH COBBLER
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup milk
- 2 cups sliced peaches
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Melt butter in 9×9 baking dish.
Blend flour, baking powder, sugar, and milk. Pour batter in baking dish over melted butter (don’t stir). Spread peaches on top of the batter. Bake for 1 hour or until golden brown.
Serve warm with freshly whipped cream or homemade vanilla ice cream.
