This year we’ve had some of the coldest weather I’ve known since I was a kid. Snow in the forecast for today and Friday. I know it’s winter, but this business of having actual winter weather is making me long for signs of spring.
So today I’m listening to Aaron Copeland’s Appalachian Spring as I work. Lovely, lovely music that’s making me even hungrier to see shoots of green and petals unfurling. Nonetheless, I recommend it. Just put it on in the background and enjoy.
(It tickles me that this version is performed by an orchestra in Australia. About as far from Appalachia as you can get!)
We’ve had a warmer winter in New Mexico. I spend a lot of time outdoors, and I’m not complaining. A couple of years ago I had to kneel in two-foot deep snow to reweld a log splitter so we could have firewood. I couldn’t do that now – glad I didn’t have to!
Even saw a butterfly the other day, a yellow one. Heading east, so maybe he’ll be with you soon!
Blessings and butterflies, Sarah!
Do you remember Scott (Dexter)? He was crazy about Appalachian Spring.
