hurricaneWe moved to the mountains of NC after losing our coastal SC house in flooding from a hurricane. We paddled a kayak through sliding glass doors into our great room. Trust me, at that point it’s just kinda funny.
Since moving to the mountains, we’ve seen MAJOR flooding caused by a hurricane (not IN our house, thankfully) and now October snow and wind resulting from the same. Here’s what I think: there’s no place you can go to escape Mother Nature. And WHO is Mother Nature? Well, that would be God, wouldn’t it?
I don’t think God sends hurricanes or heat waves or tornadoes or snowstorms or any of the other weather we tend to dread. But He did make this world where all that stuff happens. And our failure to escape bad weather reminds me that God is with me in everything.
He’s with me when floodwaters leave fish swimming inside the dryer. He’s with me when I slide into the ditch during a snowstorm. He’s with me when I’m sick. He’s with me when I think I’ll never be a published author. AND He’s with me when I experience one of those amazing days that seem to go exactly the way I want.
My prayers today are with everyone facing the brunt of Hurricane Sandy. What we’re getting in the mountains of NC is an afterthought compared to New England. God be with you all.
Psalm 139:1,7-10 “You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.”
