For mom’s birthday last weekend, we took her to Adaland Mansion in Philippi, WV, for breakfast. This gorgeous historic home is open for tours and special meals throughout the year. Although it’s in a non-touristy part of the state, it’s well worth the trip to see the house and visit with Ann Serafin, the executive director and salvation of this home that would probably have fallen into ruin without her.
The house was built in 1870 by emancipated slaves and has been restored with attention to detail. There are quite a few Civil War sites in the area to round out a visit. Plus, the food is delicious and the staff is charming! I only wish I could spend more time at Adaland. Visit it at Adaland Mansion and if you’re in WV, find time to stop by.
