Several years ago I resolved to stop making resolutions and I’ve done a really good job of keeping that one. But this year I’m making a new resolution. I resolve to strive to please no one by God.
I have a habit (not uncommon) of trying to please lots of people. My husband, my boss, my family, my friends. Unfortunately, there’s a fine line between pleasing and impressing and all too often what I’m trying to do is make people like me.
This resolution applies to writing as well. I will write what God leads me to and will not compromise the message for the sake of publication. I trust that if publication is the end point, then God will lead me to the people who will carry out His plan. (And will help me discern what the plan is in the first place!)
God promises me a lot of things if I follow Him. People liking me isn’t one of them.
Matthew 5:10-12 – Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
This was my favorite post of the year.
