I was blessed to spend this past weekend with my mom. She and her best friend came to spend the weekend with my husband and me. On Saturday evening I flopped on the sofa next to her and laid my 39-year-old head on her shoulder. She stroked my hair while we sat and watched TV.
You NEVER get too old to stop needing/wanting/longing for your mother. As I sat there, blissfully soothed by my mother’s hand on my head, I realized that we’re all children in need of parenting. I’m incredibly fortunate to still have both my parents who are both pretty happy to offer their two cents (mostly when asked). But I’m even luckier to have a heavenly father who always has excellent advice for me (only when I listen).
My mom has been my biggest cheerleader when it comes to my writing. She reads and comments on my blog more often than not. She reads my work and tells me how wonderful it is (everyone needs one someone who thinks your words are perfect just as they are). She shares my poems with everyone she knows and maybe a few people she doesn’t really know. She thinks I’m amazing.
Mom, when you read this, I just want you to know how much I love you. And how much I treasure having a mom like you–PERFECT just the way you are.
Well, now… that made me cry!! I love you more than you can ever know. Thank you for a beautiful weekend.
Happy tears are what I was aiming for ; )
Loved this blog, Sarah… You two deserve each other. I’m so glad you got to spend the weekend together!
This was such a sweet post, Sarah! You and your mother are just beautiful! And I am blessed, too, to have both of my parents still living. Uncondtional love never grows old.
Ain’t that the truth!!
