Yesterday was West Virginia Day–the day we celebrate seceding from the Confederacy and becoming a new state by presidential decree!

I’ll always be a West Virginia girl. Even though I’ve now lived in other states longer than I did on our family farm, I still consider it HOME. And my husband and I still own the family farm that goes back seven generations.

The gravestone below is for the first set of ancestors to settle on our land. Back when it was still part of Virginia!

As you can see, the farm is still very much in use. That’s my brother hanging out towels on the line and my dog playing sentinel at the cellar house. She knows deer WILL appear if she waits long enough!

John Denver got it right when he called this place almost heaven and I LOVE setting my stories here.

What place do you consider almost heaven?
