I’ve dumped the prologue, beefed up the subplot, cut 10% of the manuscript and upped the conflict. The new, improved proposal and first three chapters are now sitting in another acquisition editor’s in-box. I’d say my expectations are a touch more realistic this time. I hope she’ll fall in love with my book, but I recognize that even if she does, the timing may not be right. Not only does the book have to be GREAT, the market has to be poised for this particular story. We shall see.
In the meantime, I need to get back to Casewell and Bess (A Hunger So Deep). They’ve been hanging out, waiting to see what will happen to them next for a couple of months now. It’s time to find out!
