Okay, I didn’t really grow up IN Buckhannon. But it’s the closest town to our farm that’s big enough to be called a town. And during the month of September, you can win a trip to visit this hip Appalachian gem that’s been voted one of the coolest small towns in the state. The getaway is part of WV Living Magazine’s Wild & Wonderful Getaway Giveaway series (they’ve done several and will do more, so subscribe to their newsletter!). And the package is provided courtesy of the Upshur County Visitors Center.
Here’s the scoop: “From September 6 to 26, 2021, you can enter to win by answering the poll and telling us what makes you think of Buckhannon most. One lucky person will win the grand prize of a trip for you and up to five friends to visit Buckhannon from October 29 to 31, 2021. You’ll enjoy a two night stay in the Blackberry Cottage, dine on a delicious private dinner in the Hawks Nest prepared by renowned chef Dale Hawkins, and take in a production of Clue at the Buckhannon Community Theatre.”
So–Halloween in Appalachia! You can’t beat that with a stick. And as for the poll–when you click through to the giveaway page you’ll have your choice of eight fun things Upshur County is known for. When I was a kid, I would have picked either the Strawberry Festival (carnival rides!) or the WV Wildlife Center (we knew it as the Game Farm). These days, though, it’s the fabulous food courtesy of my friends Dale and Teresa at Fishhawk Acres. If you win–say “hey” for me!
AND, if you win, I’ll mail you a signed copy of my new novel–The Finder of Forgotten Things–when it releases in December. All you have to do is let me know you’re the winner! Of course, I’ve already entered. I mean, my mom’s birthday is at the end of October. How perfect would that be?!?
I entered the contest. Haven’t been back to Buckhannon in many years. They didn’t give me the option of “birthplace” as to what I think of when I think of Buckhannon. I decided Strawberry Festival was the best one.
I hope you win! You know, if I don’t 😉
