Okay, I didn’t really grow up IN Buckhannon. But it’s the closest town to our farm that’s big enough to be called a town. And during the month of September, you can win a trip to visit this hip Appalachian gem that’s been voted one of the coolest small towns in the state. The getaway is part of WV Living Magazine’s Wild & Wonderful Getaway Giveaway series (they’ve done several and will do more, so subscribe to their newsletter!). Here’s the scoop: “From September 6 to 26, 2021, you can enter to win by answering the poll and telling us what makes you think of Buckhannon most. One lucky person will win the grand prize of a trip for you and up to five friends to visit Buckhannon from October 29 to 31, 2021. You’ll enjoy a two night stay in the Blackberry Cottage, dine on a delicious private dinner in the Hawks Nest prepared by renowned chef Dale Hawkins, and take in a production of Clue at the Buckhannon Community Theatre.”

So–Halloween in Appalachia! You can’t beat that with a stick. And as for the poll–when you click through to the giveaway page you’ll have your choice of eight fun things Upshur County is known for. When I was a kid, I would have picked either the Strawberry Festival (carnival rides!) or the WV Wildlife Center (we knew it as the Game Farm).
