Most of us have goals. Some are simple like not eating the pastries some well-meaning (evil?) person leaves in the break room. Some are more complex like launching a publishing career. One of my friends has a goal to lose weight (I think most of us do, but she’s doing something about it). Another has a goal of earning a degree now that her youngest is in school. Most of us have a goal of retiring one day with enough money to live on!
But what are we doing about those goals? I’m pretty focused on my publishing goal, I’ve gone to conferences, write regularly, joined critique groups and entered contests. Even so, I’ve never been what you would call really organized about my goal. I’m just taking the steps that seem pertinent at the moment.
Kathi Lipp has written a book that can change that. And she’s invited me to be part of her blog tour this week, so I get to share the details of her book with you. The Me Project is a 21-day guide to living the life you’ve always wanted. In her latest book Kathi inspires us to Dream Big. And then she gives us the tools we need to make at least one of those dreams come true. It’s an organized, step-by-step plan to meeting your goals. Who doesn’t need that?!?
My favorite part of the book is the Dream Big part in the beginning. She suggests we all start a 50/50 journal. Come up with 50 things you want to do in the next 50 years (or so). They can be deep and meaningful–spend at least two hours each week in Bible study. Or they can be just for fun–take a watercolor painting class. They can be life-changing like switching careers or mood changing like smiling more often. Then she suggests you pick ONE of the 50 things and focus on it for 21 days. There are 21 “projects” along the way that range from giving up perfection to finding a mentor to help you achieve your goal. It’s a fantastic system for zeroing in on something you really want. Oh, there’s no guarantee you’ll accomplish your goal in 21 days. But I’d be willing to bet a slice of triple-chocolate cake your goal will be clearer, more achievable and more real at the end of three weeks.
Plus, Kathi is funny. And she loves buying journals that she never finishes filling (I have about 18 of those) and she hates dusting (ditto!). If you’re interested in a fun, fulfilling read that will help you get what you want most out of life, check The Me Project out.
