Julie Cantrell is brave.
Are you brave enough to read her latest book? The Feathered Bone is amazing and difficult and heartbreaking and beautiful.
If you like fun romances, or meticulous historicals, or impossible-to-guess mysteries–this book may not be for you. But if you like books that challenge you and get you thinking, pick it up as soon as it releases on January 26.
Julie is the Rumplestiltskin of fiction. Remember the little guy who could spin straw into gold? That’s what Julie does. She takes pain, anguish, and unimaginable grief and spins it into pure light and love.
This story tackles issues most writers approach peripherally if at all. Things like spouse abuse, child abduction, sex trafficking, and suicide. There was one moment when I was so mad at Julie I wanted to call her and demand that she change the story. You know, the one that’s already been published.
Instead, I read faster, because I KNEW she would somehow redeem this. And she did.
That’s the takeaway I want to give you before you read The Feathered Bone. It’s hard, but the payoff is worth it. It’s strange–I wouldn’t say I enjoyed this book. But I did devour it and in the end was grateful to have experienced each and every emotion.
I think you’ll be glad, too.

Good for you!
I am newly retired, and I am ready to tackle this new book. I want to see Ms. Cantrell spin her grief into pure light.
It’s a show well worth seeing!
I’ve been reading rather light and fluffy stuff recently. Sounds like this might be an interesting change . I’ve never read anything by Julie before.
Her writing is amazing! And totally worth it.
I read Cantrell’s first book and loved it!
I feel confident you’ll like this one, too!
I love reading books with tough subjects – they’re help the reader become aware of, understand, and sympathize with the plight of others. While also teaching lessons which can be applied to one’s own life, or used in reaching out to others. Thanks for the opportunity to read “The Feathered Bone”!!

Uh-huh. I’ve read a few books like that … broke my heart things turned out the way they did, for a time … but then, the braid came altogether in the end, wrapped up nice and pretty with a bow on the end. I’ve never read Julie’s work before. I’d love to give it a try. đŸ™‚
Exactly! Julie is one of the most powerful writers I know that way.
I reviewed an ARC of THE FEATHERED BONE and my thoughts match yours. She’s very talented.
I’m a little bit in awe of her!
I’ve read all of Julie’s books and looking forward to this one too!
