I’m assuming, if you read this blog, you like reading fiction. Hopefully, Appalachian historical fiction! And I often post about books I’m reading (when I’m not writing!). But I read more than books and I’m betting you do, too.
So, what else do you enjoy reading?
I just love it when I open the mailbox and there’s a new West Virginia Living or Victoria magazine in there. And I look forward to getting my quarterly copy of Goldenseal Magazine with all of its historic, Appalachian material to inspire me.
I like to read poetry to kick-start my creativity–Wendell Berry is my absolute favorite! I enjoy seeing what articles Google is suggesting I check out each day–the algorithm knows me well with articles about dogs, food, health, and general weirdness (e.g. The Russian Family That Cut Itself Off From Civilization for More Than 40 Years). I read church signs: “CH__CH, what’s missing? UR.” And I when I get my oil changed I read People magazine marveling at how I don’t know who these people are anymore.
I read letters when I’m fortunate enough to get them and I even read cereal boxes when I’m eating breakfast. Although I’m not much of a daily paper reader, I like to skim the headlines and settle in for the occasional article. And every now and then I sit down and read really delicious cookbooks from appetizer to decadent dessert.
So how about you? What else do you look forward to reading?
Reading so much this summer during my recovery (summer break from teaching). just finished Klara and the Sun (skay) and thoroughly enjoyed a juvie classic, Good Night, Mr. Tom.
I’m picturing you in a hammock with lemonade!
Raspberry ice tea today with a new book!
Scrumptious!
