I blogged just over a month ago about turning 40. No big deal. Then I saw a commercial for Advil yesterday. Jon Bon Jovi was pitching painkillers. You know, because he’s getting older and has aches and pains. Apparently jumping around on a stage in tight pants can make your joints ache.
Bon Jovi was hot when I was young. And let’s just say he’s, ahem, aged well. But it’s clear that, like the rest of us, he has AGED. And with age comes certain adjustments–like stiff achy joints caused by . . . well, for me, sitting in a chair for more than 10 minutes.
But, other stuff comes with age, too. Like self-confidence. And perseverance. And the willingness to follow God’s lead in my life. Faith, trust, acceptance. This writing business often feels not just like going out on a limb, but like going out on a limb for the express purpose of having it cut out from beneath me. But God has caught me every time. And that’s something else that comes with age–faith that God always will catch me. All I have to do is let Him.
