So there’s a lot of STUFF going on in my life right now. Work is hectic, church is going through a transition, and then there’s my writing. And I do like to stay on top of everything!
But as I’ve prayed lately, I keep getting a clear message. And it’s “Be Still.” God totally has this all in hand. He has a plan and it’s underway. All I need to do is . . . be still.
In Bible study last night we covered the perfect verse. Exodus 14:14 “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Oh. Well. But I was ready to DO something. You know, jump in and make things better, make things right. And He wants me to . . . be still. But God, I could be so useful!
Humph. And here I thought the challenge would be doing what God asked. Turns out not doing can be really hard, too.
How about you? Are you a doer? A fixer? Someone who jumps in to make sure everything goes the way it’s supposed to? Talk to me and tell me about. Maybe we can form an impromptu Be Still Support Group.
Psalm 37:7 -“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.”
Psalm 46:10 – “He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Yes, definitely a doer. I have no idea what to do with myself if I don’t have a goal to reach. BUT I just learned a great way to “do” the whole BEING STILL thing…instead of praying for things to happen, THANK GOD for the stuff He’s already put into motion for us. I tend to beat my head against the wall in my prayers, asking the same thing repeatedly until I’m too burned-out to ask again. But THANKING God for already HEARING those prayers is a truly proactive, reassuring way to get through all these times of being still.
Oh, Heather, I just love that! What a great way to spend the “still” time.
I think there’s a time to “be still” (which appears to be right now…) and a time to act. As with so many things, it’s important to be in tune with what God is doing, and co-operate to the best of our ability. Part of me is grateful for the times when we are to wait, while another part is ready to move on and get busy!
You and me, both!
Being still, for me, is pretty much like being tied up and gagged with an ugly tie.
But this verse came at me yesterday from more than one source.
It’s God like put His finger on top of my head and said .”Be. STILL.”
Exactly! When verses keep coming at me like this, I TRY to listen.
Hmmmm… I am such a doer and a “fixer” that this is difficult for me too! But this is such a great reminder. Thank you.
Glad to know I’m in good company!
