I follow a blog written by agent Rachelle Gardner. Over the weekend she talked about having a day of rest–Sabbath or otherwise. The responses from her readers got me thinking about how “rest” looks different to different people. For some it might mean literally doing nothing, for others it might mean doing something they find relaxing. Turns out rest for some folks actually looks pretty busy to me.
My idea of rest is basically only doing what I WANT to do. That might be something (reading, writing, hiking, cooking, shopping) or nothing (napping, watching TV, sitting in the sun on the back deck listening to the creek). It’s no deadlines, no pressures, no expectations (my own or anyone else’s!).
Q4U – What does rest look like for you? How often do you actually get it?
I think basically something that takes my mind away from everything else: reading, jigsaws, crosswords, Free Cell (card game), sometimes drives on back roads, some TV, sleep without dreams. I get enough, but not always at the time I want or need it.
I don’t get it often enough! Being self-employed in a household of just me means if I’m not working, I’m not earning. In these tough economic times, that means I’m working a lot. I gotta find a solution quick! 🙂
