Family photoMy grandmother has been gone for a year now. This past Christmas I didn’t buy her a present. In February, we didn’t celebrate her birthday. This will be the second Mother’s Day that I haven’t sent her flowers or fruit or candy.
And I miss her.
When I travel home to WV, it’s often a quick trip. Usually a three-day weekend. Not so long ago, that weekend needed to include visits with my mom, dad, brother, grandmother, and great aunt. Now Aunt Bess and Grandma Burla are gone and visits are easier to coordinate. I can’t really say I’m glad about that.
But I am glad that in those days when I had to plan my trips down to the minute to make sure I had time with everyone, I often thought about how it wouldn’t always be that way. I knew this day would come.
And knowing that I appreciated and treasured time with those ladies who were so dear to me, makes missing them a little bit easier.
