Moms make the world go round.
When I reviewed my blog posts for 2013 I thought announcing my publishing contract would be the most popular. So many of you commented and traffic spiked. And hey, I’m cool with reliving that moment! But that wasn’t what readers loved best. Nope. Cause moms make the world go round.
It was THIS post. A Message for Writer Moms: I take it back.
It was the post with a photo of me holding my squirming, not entirely happy nieces when they came to spend the weekend with us. The post about how I no longer envy all you stay-at-home moms who I mistakenly thought were happily tapping away at keyboards while your little angels napped or played quietly. One weekend shattered that illusion.
And admitting how wrong I was apparently resonated not only with writer friends but also with moms all over cyberspace. Which I think is the key to reaching folks via this blog. It’s not about appealing to people I already know, it’s about sharing something that people I don’t know can relate to. Something that makes people think, “Yes, I feel that way, too.” Or, “That’s it! Thanks for understanding.”
I’m still figuring out exactly what that something is. Occasionally I stumble across it and traffic spikes and my post gets shared on Twitter and Facebook and maybe someone who’s never heard of me will come back and get a copy of my book and think, “Yes, I feel that way, too.”
At least I hope so. And maybe that person will be a mom. Because I definitely learned one thing in 2013–Moms make the world go round.
…And working moms have it even harder. Compressing all the necessary daily activities into the early morning and evenings seems like an impossible task to me since most of the time I was an ‘at home’ mom. You can certainly see, after your weekend with the princesses, that at home writers have a monumental task staying focused for their writing.
Indeed they do!
Loved that expression on your face!! But the thing I really noticed was all that “stuff” on your usually bare kitchen counters! 🙂
Those girls do have STUFF!!
Well, my most popular post in 2013 was “How to be a Vulcan”.
Logic would dictate that I follow that indicator.
Well, yeah. Sounds like useful information!
Indeed. Live long and prosper, Sarah!
