Check out Now & Then

I have an article in the Summer issue of Now & Then: The Appalachian Magazine about how a restored historic home is bringing tourism dollars to Barbour County, West Virginia. The theme for this issue is the “greening” of Appalachia, which is broadly interpreted in interesting ways. I’ve written about historic Adaland on this blog in the past and I’m happy to be able to bring it some well deserved attention once again.

For more than twenty-five years, Now & Then has shared stories of Appalachia including journalistic articles, personal essays, poetry, music reviews and more. In 1984, Now & Then began its life as the newsletter of East Tennessee State University’s newly formed Center for Appalachian Studies and Services. The publication has since grown to a full-blown magazine overflowing with gems from many of Appalachian’s most revered writers, poets, musicians and visual artists. If you love or have an interest in Appalachia, check them out.
